About

Omoikane is a private, AI-powered job-search workspace for career-switchers, people re-entering the workforce, and neurodivergent job seekers. It covers the whole lifecycle — honest match scoring, CV tailoring, cover letters in your own voice, application tracking, networking, and post-placement support.

The name & philosophy

Omoikane is the Shinto kami of deliberation — the deity who gathers others' thoughts to find the wisest course. That's the product's core: pause, weigh, decide. It gives you an honest read on whether a job fits, so you can walk away from weak matches instead of applying to everything.

The story

I built Omoikane while job-searching in the Netherlands — qualified and motivated, but lost in a process that offered almost no structural guidance. The longer I looked, the clearer it became that the same gap hits a lot of people: career-switchers, anyone recovering from burnout, people re-entering the workforce, and neurodivergent job seekers navigating a system that wasn't built for them.

Omoikane is built from that lived experience — not from market research alone.

To make the job search less lonely, less dishonest, and less overwhelming — by combining structured career coaching with AI that writes in your own voice, scores jobs against your real profile, and never invents evidence.

How it's run & funded

Omoikane is an independent project built in Leiden by its two makers. No equity, no loans, no ads, and no selling of data. We work on it unpaid until the product earns its own keep.

We hold your account, CV materials, applications, drafts, diary, calendar (if connected), your coaching answers and voice samples, wellbeing check-ins you log, your contacts, any contracts you upload for review, and — if you opt in — an import of your LinkedIn profile data, kept in sync while the connection is authorised. That's it. We never sell, share, train on, advertise with, or expose your data. You can export everything in a zip (once every 24 hours) or delete everything, from settings — deletion is irreversible and cascades through every backing system within 7 days. We log operator access to your data and key account events in an audit trail you can read, and if anything material changes here you get an email and 30 days' notice first.

What "personal data" means here

Per GDPR Article 4(1), personal data is any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. For Omoikane that includes your email, name, CV content, application history, diary entries, calendar events, and — if you connect LinkedIn — the subset of profile data described below.

Legal basis

Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — everything required to deliver the career-coaching service.

Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — security, fraud prevention, audit logging.

Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — accounting and tax records.

Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — the optional calendar integration and the optional LinkedIn import. Both revocable anytime from settings.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, port, restrict, and object — each realised in your account settings. If anything is broken or unclear, write to privacy@omoikane.coach and we respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your national authority — for the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

90 days hot in DB, 12 months in encrypted off-site backup. Records access metadata only — no PII payloads.

7 years per Dutch fiscal law (AWR Art. 52); Stripe is the system of record.

Things we explicitly do NOT do

We do not use your data — including LinkedIn-imported data — to make or inform decisions about credit, insurance, employment eligibility, housing, immigration, or any consequential third-party determination.

We do not infer protected categories (race, ethnicity, religion, political opinion, union membership, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, health, biometric or genetic data), and we never use them in any scoring or decision. The only such data we hold is what you explicitly log yourself — like wellbeing check-ins for session pacing — stored privately and deletable anytime.

We do not train any model — ours or anyone else's — on your data.

We do not target advertising.

We do not disclose your data to recruiters, employers, or any third party except the strictly-named sub-processors.

We do not use Google Analytics, GTM, Facebook Pixel, Mixpanel, Segment, or any commercial analytics vendor. Aggregate page-views come from a self-hosted, cookieless Umami instance.

Children

Omoikane is for users 18+, or with explicit consent of a parent or guardian. We enforce this with a one-time age-confirmation gate at first sign-in — it stores a single timestamp, never your date of birth or any ID. If you believe a minor provided data without consent, contact privacy@omoikane.coach and we'll delete it.

LinkedIn Member Data Portability

Optional, revocable any time. Integrated under the EU Digital Markets Act. When you connect, you authorise a snapshot of the following, kept in sync while your connection remains authorised:

Account history — work history, education, certifications, skills

Profile content — languages and your profile country (nothing else from your profile)

Recommendations — recommendations you've received; never re-published

We do not request your connections, messages, search history, ad-engagement, or payment data. Drafting sends only the per-draft subset to the LLM provider for your tier — your own BYOM provider; the managed tiers (not yet open) are planned to run through Mistral (EU). See the Sub-processors list for each provider's transfer basis. Revoke from LinkedIn's Permitted services panel — revocation triggers removal, full cascade within 7 days. The OAuth token expires after 12 months, requiring fresh consent.

A right to export and delete your data, anytime, from settings

A right to use the drafts the system produces, however you want — they are yours

What we ask

You are at least 18, or have explicit consent of a parent or guardian. We ask once, at first sign-in, via a gate that stores only a timestamp — never your date of birth or any ID.

One human per account. No team accounts, no shared logins.

No automated scraping or bulk-extraction beyond what the export endpoint provides.

No abuse of the LLM quota — e.g. using Omoikane as a generic writing assistant outside the job-search workflow.

If you use a paid tier once the managed tiers open, pay your subscription. Cancel anytime from settings.

Honour your own commitments to the recipients of applications you send through Omoikane.

What we promise never to do

The negative list from the Security page is incorporated into these terms by reference and forms a binding promise. If we ever change one of those promises, we'll write to you, give you 30 days to export and delete, and keep the old promise in force during the notice window.

Liability

Omoikane is a workspace that helps you draft applications. Your applications are your own. We don't represent you, vet companies, vouch for the postings you submit, or guarantee any outcome from any application you send.

The drafts the system produces are starting points. You read them, you approve them, you send them. Your name is on them; you own what gets sent.

Termination

You can close your account anytime, from settings. We can close your account if you violate these terms — we'll write to you first if it's not an emergency.

Governing law

Dutch law. Disputes go to the district court of The Hague — the competent court for our Leiden seat — unless you're a consumer in another EU country, in which case your local consumer-protection law applies.
